Initialise lower case names

When citing authors who prefer their names to be spelled all in lower case (e.g. danah boyd, bell hooks), Zotero does not initialise their first name.

For example, Zotero outputs:

boyd, danah (2011). Social Network Sites as Networked Publics...

But I would like it to output:

boyd, d. (2011). Social Network Sites as Networked Publics...

I currently have a workaround where I input a lower-case initial (e.g. 'd.') instead of the full name into the first name field, but this isn't ideal for switching between referencing styles.

Is there any way to set a referencing style to initialise a lower-case name in this way?

Thanks
  • Also having this problem! Even when I use the workaround of putting the first name as a lower-case initial with a period afterwards, there is inexplicably an extra space after the comma before the first initial ("boyd, d." instead of "boyd, d."). This happens consistently to me with lower-case author names in APA, and I've checked that there isn't an extra space in the author name field in the Zotero item listing. The extra space disappears if the change the capitalization to Danah Boyd.
