feature request --- export annotations (embed zotero database highlights to opened PDF)
Hi, I'd like to make a feature request.
It would be nice to flatten Zotero database annotations inside opened PDF right away (same as "Import Annotations..." button in File options when working in PDF). I have seen somewhat similar request but I want to clarify because they were mostly just shrugged off with ways to work around it.
I am using ZotMoov to shuffle my PDFs between Zotero files on my PC and a Dropbox folder that I can natively open on my Tablet through Adobe Reader. When I highlight on Tablet (through adobe thingy) these annotations are of course embedded in the pdf. If I want to make some annotations on PC (in Zotero) they are stored in Zotero database (I know that) and are consequently not seen back when Tablet viewing or when opened in another application/sent/whatever. To achieve this I have to export entire PDF to some other location and it's not the same file as the one in Zotero library.
Easy solution would be to make PC annotations through different PDF annotation tool on my PC and open Zotero PDFs through such app. On Linux there is nothing as clean as Adobe Reader (sadly) and I also really like the look and feel of Zotero newly built PDF reader and annotater. It's really cool! Also, minimising needed apps to only two (Zotero+Reader) is a digital-minimalism plus.
I understand that Zotero made decision for in-database annotations - I would just like to have a option to flatten these into PDFs in a simpler manner than to export entire pdf with annotations to different folder, open it there, then proceed to replace this pdf with the one in Zotero library etc. etc. It can be done but it's hardly as simple as my setup which does these maneouvers with two clicks and uses just the Zotero app (+plugin) and Adobe Reader on my tablet and not a single thing more.
There are solutions to my problem but my request aims for a simpler process than if I reached for these solutions. It's not critique or POV of a missing feature in Zotero, just a preference that would make my using this software better. I hope it's somewhat understandable point.
Thanks a lot and have a good one!
