Auto Index of manually added PDFs change PDF name

I'm trying to just add a PDF of a recent report made by a private company to my Zotereo library so I can edit the index manually. However, everytime I add the PDF to my library, the auto-indexing kicks in, the name of the PDF is changed, and I can't open the pdf within my Zotero viewer/browser. The name of the PDF is changed to a similar one, but with the date changed to 40yrs prior. How do I add a PDF to zotero and prevent it from auto indexing and changing the PDF before I can manually edit it?

What do you mean "I can't open the pdf within my Zotero viewer/browser"?

It sounds like it's trying to retrieve metadata and producing bad results (which could easily happen with a random report), but that wouldn't stop you from editing the metadata manually or opening the PDF.

But if you have a better source for the metadata, you can right-click on the generated parent item, choose Undo Retrieve Metadata, save the data some other way (e.g., from a webpage with the Zotero Connector), and then drag the standalone PDF attachment onto that item.
