My Zotero is not syncing

Hi, My I have Zotero on my macbook air, it will not sync with the online account. I have used it for a number of years and this has happend since I updated the new zotero. The message is saying there is an error in syncing. When I try to send the report it times out and wont work. Any ideas please?

  • I've gone into the sync page, which was originally working last week. And I have put in the right username and password. I press set up syncing, it sends an error message saying request timed our, report error. When I press the report error button it does not go through and eventually times out
  • That would be a problem with your network configuration or your internet connection.

    See Connection Error. This isn't a problem in Zotero itself.
  • thank you for answering, I have whitelisted zotero from my avast secutity system. if its was a connection problem why would it work sometime and not others?
  • Also my mac is connecting fine it is just my macbook air which I travel with that is not connecting.
  • That's something you'd need to debug. See the linked page. There's obviously no general problem with all network connections to Zotero servers, so this is some problem with your computer.

  • Sorry one last question. If I unistall zotero on my macbook air and reinstall to try to solve the problem will I loose all the documents I have saved on it. Is there a way to save these? Or shall I just reinstall and leave the other version still on there?
  • You never lose data uninstall and reinstalling an app on a Mac, and Zotero is no exception, but it also is very unlikely to fix anything, assuming you're already running the latest version.

    Make sure you've restarted your computer, make sure you've disabled any third-party security software, and make sure you've read the linked page and have adjusted proxy settings as necessary.
