Trash is overflowing!

Hello,

I work on systematic reviews and moved some large files into the trash without deleting the items permanently. Now I have 44,000 items in the trash and zotero is too overwhelmed to load the items in the inventory to allow me to bulk select items and delete them permanently in any meaningful way. I usually Ctrl + A to select all, but I've been selecting the top item and then scrolling down and Ctrl + Shift + selecting an item down a few hundred items but it won't work because it hasn't loaded all of the items in between. I also don't see the option to right-click the trash and "empty trash" in the web or application interface in the current version - possibly because Zotero is too swamped.

Does anyone have a workaround for permanently deleting everything in the trash. I started to look at running some javascript to tell Zotero to just delete permanently everything in the trash, but I wasn't able to figure it out on my own.

Thank you!
  • In the general tab of the preferences, you have the option to set "Automatically delete items in the trash after __ days"
You could just set that from the default 30 to 2.
