Google and Word Document Not Updating + Zotero Plug-in Malfunctioning [Report ID: 1598202012]

Hello.

I have two problems I'm hoping you can help me with:

(1) I am looking to update some in-text citations in a Google Doc. I went into the Zotero desktop app and updated the authors and title and refreshed the Google Doc by going to Zotero > Refresh). After refreshing, the citation still has not updated. I did this in Google Doc and in Microsoft Word. When I went to download the Google Doc as a Word document to try that way, I followed the instructions at https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/moving_documents_between_word_processors on how to move documents with Zotero citations between word processors to ensure the citations remain linked. Unfortunately, it is still not working for me either way.

(2) When I go to Zotero/”Add/Edit Citation” in the Google Doc for certain in-text citations, the attached picture is what appears for me. When I then go to select my email address, the page appears to malfunction and I’m either redirected to the Zotero desktop app (i.e., my Zotero desktop app just appears) or I’m redirected to the Google Doc page — I tried selecting different email addresses to see if that made a difference but it didn’t.

Thank you in advance for your help with both issues.

  • For (1), most likely the citation is just unlinked or orphaned. Click the citation and click Add/Edit Citation. Does the citation appear in the citation dialog, or is the citation dialog empty? If it appears, see Deleted Items (different topic, same advice). If it doesn't appear, see Why isn’t Zotero detecting my existing Google Docs citations?.

For (2), make sure the citation dialog isn't just appearing behind your other windows. That's the most likely thing here. If you're sure it's not that, can you provide a Debug ID for reproducing this after restarting Zotero?

I am still having the same issue with (2). I have access to a Google Doc and I was given instructions to re-insert some in-text citations in a Google Doc. I was told the following as it pertains to the instructions:

    — When I click on the in-text citations, it will give me a warning, and that I should click “Relink citation”.
    — The citation will then disappear from the text. So, I'll need to write it down or take a screenshot so you know what to re-insert.
    — If a citation has any additional language like and “e.g.,” I must include that as well.

However, when I click on the in-text citations in the Google Doc, I do not see a warning message and "Relink citation" does not appear. Attached is a picture of what appears for me when I click on the in-text citation. When I click on "Edit with Zotero" (as shown in the picture), a webpage appears that asks me to sign in with a Google address (i.e., the same picture I attached to my Oct. 31 post in this thread). When I then go to select my email address, the same problem persists: The page appears to malfunction and I’m either redirected to the Zotero desktop app (i.e., my Zotero desktop app just appears) or I’m redirected to the Google Doc page — I tried selecting different email addresses to see if that made a difference but it didn’t. The citation dialogue is not appearing behind my other windows.

Below are the two Debug IDs I have submitted:

    Zotero Desktop App: D617434716
    Zotero Safari Connector: D1428313434

Thank you sincerely in advance for your help with this.
