Bug in search/tag selection?
The scenario:
Use the regular search field up top to run a search. X items are listed as a result.
Click a tag in the tag list at the bottom left to select it. Some subset of the X items remain listed. Call that count Y.
Edit that tag in those Y items, so that it's different, or just delete it from them. Upon editing the last of them, of course there are now 0 items listed, but the search text also goes away in the search field. That's unexpected behavior #1.
Down in the tag pane at bottom left, there is the label "No tags to display", which is fine because there are now no items in the library pane. However the drop-down menu says (in grayed-out letters) "No tags selected", but this is not the case, because if you click on the "Deselect all" in that drop-down, all the tags now appear along with all of the entries in the Library pane. So in reality the selected tag (which now has no items to which it belongs) remained selected, even though Zotero says it isn't. Unexpected behavior #2.
Even more, the tag disappears from the tag area whether or not there are other items with it that were not included in the original search - which has now disappeared. Steps:
1. Do a search
2. Select a tag.
3. Delete the tag from the entries found by the search.
Result: search text disappears, tag area shows nothing, items not covered by the search, but having with the tag now appear (since the search text is gone).
So in this second scenario, there's nothing to indicate that you're not looking at all the items in the library except the lack of tags at bottom-left.
Seems like a bug.

I would still urge the adoption of some kind of flag to indicate when tags are selected. See this post: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/117057/feature-request-selected-tag-flag.
