Once again... Science Direct issues

Hi users/developers,

Back in 2023, I've experienced the same sci direct issue downloading through the Connector that everyone enjoyed. The solution then was to move to the 7 Beta version, it would pop up a CAPTCHA and all was well...
However, lately (3-6 weeks) it seems that has also failed.

So, what's the game plan here?

Are you trying in the current Zotero beta? This broke again recently, and the beta contains a fix.

Can you provide a Debug ID from Zotero for reloading the page and trying to save?

Going forward, we're working on changing how Zotero downloads files to try to avoid problems with sites like these with stringent anti-bot measures.
  • I was using the beta until yesterday - this broke (about) 3 weeks ago. I moved to 7 stable thinking this could be the result of a 7 being released... but alas... both are broken.

Are you suggesting moving back to beta?

PS - here's a Report ID: 307525863, but I doubt the connector reported anything.
  • I also submitted a report for when "find full text" fails from within Zotero, not the connector (D1571863598).
  • Finally, here's a thought (that I'll be happy to try help zotero with on my end) - if sciencedirect are ok with me, an academic, using my legitimate credentials to download papers, and at the same time using which ever citation manager I want... well, they should let me input my (old) Mendeley id with Zotero.
Mendeley, like sciencedirect is owned by a very nice company called Elsevier. Mendeley isn't blocked by sciencedirect... Since my institution is paying Elsevier a nice chunk of change, I see no reason why my credentials shouldn't work, whichever way they're input into the Elsevier system.
  • Yes, you should try the current beta. You should get the CAPTCHA with that. If you don't, we'd want to see another Debug ID from that for reloading the page in your browser and trying to save.
  • Hi there, just got around to it - using the Oct 30th beta works!
Which is great... but also, why doesn't the "stable" v7 works? If you want I can send reports or whatever y'all need to debug this, but for now I'm good with the beta.
  • Because as noted above, it got broken (again) by Elsevier and required a fix, which is currently only in the beta version.
