Can't add or edit references in web library

In the last week or so my version of Zotero seems to have changed so my web library looks different. I can't add or edit any references in my web library. Not sure how to resolve this. My membership is current and I am not over the library size limit. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
  • Could you please post a screenshot and explain what steps you're taking that used to work but no longer do?

The last update to the web library was deployed on 4th October, so if something changed last week, it's likely related to a change on your end rather than an update on our side.
  • Thanks a lot for your response. Below is what my web library looks like now. It may be the first time I've accessed it since the update on 4 October.

If possible I'd prefer if I could use the previous version that looked something like the below.

  • The first screenshot you provided is from the web library, with the UI optimized for a touch device. The second is from the Zotero desktop application, which you install on your device. Is it possible that, previously, you were using Zotero on your desktop? The desktop app has more capabilities than the web library and is the primary way of using Zotero.

From the screenshot, I can see that the web library is running in touch mode, which typically happens when you're accessing it on a computer with a touch screen. If you prefer a UI more similar to the Zotero desktop app, you can switch the UI density by pressing the cog icon in the top right corner (next to the "Upgrade Storage" button), and selecting a more compact, desktop-friendly layout.
  • I followed your instruction about changing the UI density and it worked. That is excellent thanks very much. It was set on automatic and I guess detected that my laptop is a touch screen and I just changed it to mouse instead. Thanks again.
  • We've released an update. From now on, the web library should start in the mouse-optimised UI on laptops with a touchscreen. It should also correctly adapt the UI based on the most recently used input type.
