Feature Request: Automatically Scroll to Original Location and Highlight with Custom Color When Clic

I’ve been using your software, and it's really powerful! However, I have a feature request that could significantly improve the workflow when dealing with Zotero-generated links:

Auto-scroll to the exact location in the document: Currently, when clicking on a Zotero link, the document opens, but users need to manually find the referenced section. It would be very helpful if clicking the link would automatically scroll to the precise location (e.g., paragraph or page) in the document where the citation exists.

Custom highlight for the referenced content: I would like to see the referenced text highlighted automatically once the link is clicked. Additionally, it would be ideal if this highlight could have a different color than the existing highlights in the document, making it easy to distinguish.

This feature would be especially useful when handling large documents with numerous references. Thank you for considering this request, and thanks for all the hard work on this software!

Expected Functionality:

Clicking on a Zotero link automatically jumps to the referenced location.
The referenced text is highlighted with a customizable color different from existing highlights.
Thanks for considering this suggestion!

Currently, when clicking on a Zotero link, the document opens, but users need to manually find the referenced section.
What do you mean by "a Zotero link"? Annotations added to notes have a "Show on Page" button that will take you back to the specific annotation in question in the built-in reader, and they change the color of the highlighted text to show you where it is.
  • By "Zotero link," I mean a URL like zotero://open-pdf/library/items/8MEN9SWF?annotation=PSMY38NW, which, when clicked in Obsidian, jumps to the correct page in Zotero but doesn’t highlight the specific annotation. This forces me to manually search for the annotation.
  • @lawchess Those links directly reference a specific annotation by its ID. In such cases, we should probably select that annotation, rather than highlighting the text as we do for annotations that were dragged into a note, which never point to a specific annotation but instead reference the text itself.
  • @martynas_b "Thank you for your explanation, but I’m having trouble understanding what you mean. I might be a bit slow and not very smart. Could you please explain it in a bit more detail and patiently? Sorry for the trouble!"
  • I mean we’ll consider selecting the annotation when navigating to it.
  • @martynas_b Your point is worth pondering.
