I downloaded the Zotero application and Zotero Connector this evening. The file I'm working on is a .DOCX file saved on my Google Drive. I'm unable to add citations to this file. When I download a version of this document and open it with Microsoft Word, I'm able to add citations. I would like to be able to add citations to the document when working in the Google Docs application within my Google Drive.

You can't use the Google Docs plugin on a .docx directly in Google Drive. You have to import it into a native Google Docs document.
