Application PDF viewer very slow/laggy with abnormally high cpu usage

When interacting with the PDF viewer in any capacity, it starts stuttering and lags profusely. This is out of the box without a large library, annotations, plugins, etc. There is no noticeable difference between scanned PDFs and plaintext PDFs. The size of the PDFs are not large (10-30 pgs). It can take upwards of a few seconds to load a single page when scrolling at a moderate speed, and it seems as if pages get unloaded when out of view because scrolling back over previously rendered pages often times comes up blank before it loads in again. This is a very large drop in performance compared to rendering the same PDFs in firefox.

I have tested with and without a CPU governor (to minimal effect). Testing an older version (some Zotero 5 or 6) does not change much. I am running glibc Void Linux with kernel 6.6.52_1. I am on version 7.0.7.

The settings popup also has issues, freezing for ~5-10s after being opened and shooting up CPU usage, but this does not effect me as much, so I am only mentioning it for the chance it might hint towards what is going on.

Debug output of opening a PDF and moving around it a bit: D38586423. I can provide the PDF in question on request.

I hope you are well, and thank you for the help!

    What hardware is this?

Needless to say, we don't test on Void Linux. If possible, you should try on a different machine and/or distro.
