Turn off reference popup in reader

[Split from [Zotero 7 Beta] Affiliations interpreted as references]

Is it possible to turn off this feature, perhaps via the config editor?
  • Is it interfering with your reading in some way? Could you explain exactly what the problem is?
  • My biggest complaint is that I find it a distraction to my reading. When I do want to see those links, it works great when it works as intended, but (a) most times I don't want to see those links because I just want to read and (b) I find that there too many false positives, especially with author-date citations or when the PDF is an old scanned copy. Also, for more recent works, some publishers already embed links to citations and end/footnotes, so this feature becomes redudant.
  • A possibility to turn off the reference popup would be great!

When I want to annotate a text, the popup is appearing for the whole sentence or sometimes even the whole paragraph, therefore annotating becomes quite challenging.

  • Turn-off option would be very useful, but it would be even better if the feature would be more accurate, or at least err more on the side of false negatives than positives. Here's a typical example: every occurrence of the abbreviation "GF" in this document is linked to reference that happens to have a title starting with that abbreviation. If the feature would check just the author and year of references, this could be avoided.

  • @anmoisio It will get more accurate over time. Can you send the PDF file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread?
  • @martynas_b Thanks for looking into this. I sent the pdf.
