Where did the letters go to distinguish articles by the same author/same year in APA 7th edition?

With Word, when there are multiple articles by the same author published in the same year, it used to be necessary to add a letter (a, b, c) after the year of publication in in-text citations.

Now, Zotero adds the second author instead, which does not comply with APA 7th edition guidelines.

Is this a bug in the new version? There were no issues with this in the past.
  • If the 2nd author is different, it's correct APA style to list them rather than using a,b,c -- that's been the case since (at least) the 6th edition of the APA guide and has been part of Zotero's APA style for at least 10 years.
  • Yes, APA style only adds letters after the year if the author sets are identical
  • Excellent, thanks you both, I didn't know that and it's very helpful !
