Deleting a citation

I have a citation in my bibliography that has IEEE format that isn't in the document. I'm trying to delete the citation but it doesn't change the numbers. How do I delete the citation?

That just means the citation still exists somewhere in the document.
You can toggle
Word field codes
and search for the relevant metadata to find it.
