Unlinked citations and multiple copies of a reference list (118 pages)
Hi, I have never posted here before. I have been using Zotero for a year or so for assignments with no issues. However I've had ongoing issues the last couple of months.
I am using a google docs to write a thesis. Everything was going well - until it started unlinking citations. When I tried to relink, Zotero kept telling me it was updating my document, but it never stopped updating it. It wasn't frozen, but nothing was happening and the document was greyed out. I keep refreshing and restarting Zotero to get back to my doc. It was wasting hours until I finally figured out I needed to do an update! this was about two updates ago.
Everything seemed to be running pretty sweet for a few days. I had a beautiful reference list, and citations were all up to date...
Then I had a meeting with my supervisor who does not use Zotero. I was explaining something to her and the only thing I can say is - nothing has been the same since. She ran her cursor over a citation where it popped up "edit with Zotero" and ever since, I can not update any citation. She said she didn't click the link to Zotero, but after that meeting nothing has worked. The next day I discovered I had multiple (like 18+) running copies of my reference list in my document
I continue to be told I have 5 unlinked citations in my document but when I try to relink them, it takes me back to Zotero with a window popping up asking whether I want to choose the modified or original citation. No matter what I choose, it takes me back to the document and stays in "Zotero is updating" and nothing moves. EXCEPT, it reproduces my reference list multiple times. like from page 45 to p 117.
I followed the troubleshooting instructions without success. One suggestion was that maybe another user tried to edit something, so it locked the program from allowing updates, but I couldn't override that issue.
Tonight when I needed to add a citation I tried again, hoping after 2 weeks maybe it had unlocked itself, but it continues to try to update and tonight I ended up with 118 pages of repeated reference lists (my actual reference lists if 5 or 6 pages).
Can someone please help me figure this sorted? I'm a bit nervous about using Zotero now in case it really messes up my document, and I can't reverse it.
Thank you!
