Idea: Shelf or Temporary Collection
I tried searching but couldn't find any information on how to do this or other discussions suggesting the same thing.
My idea is to have the ability to add citations to a temporary collection or "shelf" to quickly make a bibliography without having to make a permanent collect for the items. It could also be used to add items to an existing collection or make a new collection.
The advantage of this over simply selecting items is that it would be more persistent, and wouldn't require you to re-do everything if you (for instance) click into a collection or different view while you are working.

bwiernikTags, especially colored tags (which you can assign by typing a number key on your keyboard) are a great way to accomplish what you’re looking for

fulaoshiTags are not that different from collections. I really would like the ability to start selecting items first and then decide what to do with them later. With tags or collections I have to first make a new tag or collection and then assign them to it which is not the workflow I want. I could, of course, have a "temporary" tag or collection, but then I would need to manually clean it out each time I'm done with it.

FHeimburgerYou could have a coloured tag called "shelf" and use that to hold the items you want to collect temporarily, assigning it by number key. And when you're done and you have moved the items wherever you need them, you just take the "shelf" tag off them by pressing the key again.

fulaoshiHmm. That seems like the best option for now.
