Our team tries to edit a Zotero in-text citation and receives an error message ("you must place the cursor in a Zotero citation to edit it).

If they try to add a citation, a generic Zotero error code appears. The new citation is broken—you can see the text, but it is no longer linked to Zotero. The only solution is to add a new link, but the error stops them from doing so in most cases.

I have used FN-ALT-F9 to expose the code underneath the regular in-text citations. I can see that the corrupted citations only say [ADDIN ZOTERO_TEMP]—they cannot retrieve any information from the database anymore. In contrast, there are citations in other parts of the document that feature code with lots of text. I tested it previously, and it was in working order.

We have tried the following:
Restarted both Zotero and Word.
Uninstalled and reinstalled the latest versions of Zotero and Word.
Ensured in Word Options → Advanced “Typing replaces selected text” is checked.
We copied the document content and pasted it into a new document and the error persisted despite setting "Set Document Preferences"
We made a copy of the documents experiencing errors — by duplicating the file itself, not by copying and pasting the content — to use for debugging.
We opened a new document and tried adding the citation but still got the error.
We saved the document in the local file drive, OneDrive and SharePoint.
