Zotero 7 interface inconsistency

In version 7 the minimal "arrows" (carats really) are used inconsistently.

On the left where the collections are listed, they toggle between > and , where the former means that there's hidden info under that item, and the latter means that the info is being shown. This is a pretty typical way these signs are used, if not the overwhelmingly common way.

On the right though, in the info sections for items, and are used. Here the latter now means the opposite of what it means on the left. It indicates that there is hidden info under the heading it's attached to. That is, the down carat means "unroll the hidden info down" and the up means "roll it back up".

Both sides should use the same convention, ideally IMO the former.
  • No, those are different UI elements, and they're both perfectly standard.

The widgets in the collections pane are twisties (or disclosure triangles, or various other terms). They're used in most hierarchical trees (e.g., Finder, or our collections/items lists) and rotate 90 degrees.

The widgets in the item pane are disclosure buttons, they show or hide complete sections of content, they're usually on the right, and they rotate 180 degrees, pointing in the direction that they'll move.

    macOS itself uses both:

  • OK.

I just find it confusing to have both when one of the symbols is shared and has basically two opposite meanings.
