file-sync to webdav and zotero-server

hola,

i tried to setup a combination of a zotero-server-sync for my file list AND a WebDAV-sync for my files (Fedora 12, Apache-WebDAV)

unfortunately i'm havin some strange problems:
i read about the mime.types issue of the IIS-WebDAV server (WinXP), but when i log into my Linux-WebDAV-Server i can see the zip-file, the prop-file and the lastsync - just the lastsync-file is empty. Does anybody if that should be?

when i "randomly" delete all my local files and then try to restore my db from the zotero-server and my webdav-server i get the list but the files aren't copied back to my local folder like it's the case for others when using an IIS-Server.

anybody an idea what could be wrong or what's going on?!

thanks in advance ...
  • looks like i found the reason for the problem after a week :)

if you don't have any data locally stored and you want to restore it from the server it just restores the file-list after restarting firefox - then you have to sync again which makes it copying the files to your local folder ... strange but that works - for both: zotero-server and own webdav-server :)

the only strange thing for now is: if i delete something from my db it will be deleted from the zotero-server-file-list and from my local folder but stays on my WebDAV-server. Is that normal?
  • Zotero will automatically purge old files every so often.
  • There aren't deleted when they are removed from the Zotero-server-file-list - so i was wondering if/when/how much later they are going to be removed from the WebDAV-server?!

However - another questions is: if i have a really big db (files > 10GB) and don't wanna sync it to every laptop (which also might not have enough space to copy the whole list of files)?! Is it possible to keep the files JUST on the WebDAV-server without syncing it to my local directory and just access the individual files by opening it ON/FROM the WebDAV-Server (which would also save a lot of sync time and a full file-sync would just be done on request)?

    thanks :)

Approximately 1 in 10 times that you open the Zotero pane, Zotero will remove deleted files older than 30 days from the WebDAV server. This behavior might change in the future. You can shorten the length via the extensions.zotero.sync.storage.deleteDelayDays hidden pref.

No, but on-demand downloading is planned.
  • awesome! thanks a lot for now :)
