Coloured tag display order?

My understanding up until now has been that coloured tags are displayed in their entries in numbered order (positions 1 to 9). It's possible that this is still the case, and I've just personally borked it somehow by continuing to use legacy colours alongside the current ones into version 7. But in the following example, »Rezension« (green) is 1 and »aktuell (privat)« (reddish pink) is 9; surely 1 should show first and then 9, but as one sees, for me it’s the other way around.

Is this intended behaviour?

Green is above the other two colors. For me, the position is correct.

Right, in the tag selector on the left. But in the entry to the right, we have reddish pink first, then (legacy) blue and finally green: the reverse order. (Not, interestingly, alphabetical: if I add »gelesen« and »epub« to the list, they are displayed in front of the title in that order.) Was it not the case that the order of the coloured tags in the selector was (meant to be) reproduced in the entries themselves?
  • As I said, green (1) is above (legacy) blue (whatever position) and reddish pink (9). As far I understand, the order/position should be understood from foreground-to-background and not from left-to-right (or right-to-left). But I guess a developer will provide the correct answer.
  • I must confess, reading foreground-to-background wasn’t an option that had occurred to me at all: thanks for pointing it out. You’re evidently correct. Having said that, I hate it: it seems completely counter-intuitive (and inconsistent with the layout in the tag selector) when the background tags are displayed to the left of the foreground tags rather than to the right. (Although I'm willing to concede that speakers of right-to-left languages may see that differently.)
  • The foreground/background order can be set separately from the left/right order.
It would indeed make sense to me also to keep a left-to-right order, to be consistent with the previous design when colored tags were displayed separately:

This is probably just carried over from the web library or an earlier version, where the colored tags and emoji tags are displayed on the right side, ordered from right-to-left, where that order makes sense:

  • Thank you for reporting this problem. The order of tags will be fixed in the next release of Zotero, and it will also be corrected in the web library.
  • @mjthoraval: Fixed in 7.0.2-beta.2
