went past storage limits, yet still able to add new papers

I just discovered Ive been over the limit of my storage limit for some time now, yet I was able to add new papers for months. How is this possible and did it come at a cost of my old papers? Does zotero delete old PDFs or make them inaccessible if the user is over the storage limit?

The storage limit is just for syncing files. You can store as much as you want locally.
