On Privacy, Again

I am still wondering about the relationship between personal notes and groups. As I understand it, you can basically select on or off -- that is, your dependent notes will either all go to the group library, or not go to the group library.

I wonder about this on two levels:

1) First, it would seem to carry some risk: suppose you're used to having private -- and thus somewhat personal notes that might have expletives, injudicious or unkind omments, gossip, whatever -- and then by accident your setting gets toggled. Ouch! It may take you months to realize this, and then the damage is done.

2) Suppose, on the other hand, most of your notes were things you'd be happy to share with the world, but there are others you don't want to.

I guess what I'm wondering is, would it be possible to develop a system that tags notes individually as private? This would allow people to designate a note as private no matter what until further notice, thus allowing them to be more liberal sharing and less fearful of big accidents. Obviously, an individual note could still be toggled incorrectly, but at least that's just one note.

Right now, I have to admit, I'm self-censoring my notes -- making them less direct than I would like -- because I fear that they might somehow by accident get out there -- even though I have the privacy setting on at the moment.
