Use of Group Email addresses to set up Group membership

I am interested in using Zotero Group Libraries to replace printed Reading Lists for students taking my courses at University. Some of these courses have enrollments as high as 200+, so it would take an eternity to invite each student individually to join a particular Group for purposes of accessing that Group's library. Each course has a group email address which I can use to send messages to every student registered for that particular course. Is there any way I can send invitations to students to join a Zotero group using a course group email address?

    These groups must be private, correct? I wonder if you could make the group open, announce it, then make it private once the students have joined.

    Another option would be to distribute a link to the group page and have them simply request membership in the private group-- it might be easier to approve 200+ requests for membership than to send out 200+ invitations.
