This problem has troubled me for a long time. It occurs when opening some image-type PDFs, but I don't know why. It displays normally when opened with other PDF software.

This won't get fixed in Zotero 6, but you can try the Zotero 7 beta or wait for Zotero 7 to see if that handles it better.
