Issues Syncing Zotero Library from Desktop to Website

Hey,

Due to some complications, I had to delete all libraries from the website while my account was not synced. Now, I want to sync my desktop version so that the libraries will also show up on the website. However, when I sync now, the website remains empty and my desktop is empty too.

I know how to restore my library, but I can't find the right information on how to sync successfully.

  • If you deleted the libraries online, you deleted them — you can't somehow recreate them from desktop app. I'm not sure why you thought this was possible? All group operations, including creating groups to begin with, are done on the website.

    If you actually had the groups locally, Zotero would've asked whether you you wanted to delete or archive the groups locally. But if this was a new installation, you just wouldn't have anything locally.
  • I'm sorry, I'm not talking about groups. I'm referring to My Library with its folders, which I can restore from a Last Automatic Backup (that's what I had to do before). But when I synced it, everything was empty (just like the website). What I want is for the website to pull the libraries from the desktop, not vice versa. Does that make sense?
