Can't make annotations as the colour won't show on annotations

I have my text displayed. I highlight the sentence I want and choose my colour. All is fine. Then after I make three such annotations, I can no longer choose a colour and have it stick. The underlined text simply goes back to its original state with no highlighting.
If I close out and restart zotero, this function comes back for a few more times.

Does it happen with all PDF files?

I will use the same document and the highlighting feature stops. Then I shut down Zotero and start it again. Then I bring up the same document and the highlighting feature works.
