How to change the background color while reading EPUBs?

I usually adjust the background color to green when I use Zotero. Since Zotero added support for reading EPUBs, I have kept importing e-books into Zotero first. The Ethereal Style plugin can customize the background color, but it doesn't work for EPUBs.
I find dark mode can change the background color for EPUBs, but my eyes feel uncomfortable in the dark mode.
Is there any other way to customize the background color for EPUBs?
