An unexpected error ocurred while installing new citation style

Hello,

Reposting since I didn't get much traction the first time. :)

I am having trouble installing a new style. I edited the APA 7th edition .csl to italicize 'et al.'. I did this in the Zotero styles editor and tried to save it as a csl. It saved with an .xul extension so I just deleted the extension and got the error 'An unexpected error occurred while installing...'. I tried to save it a different way in text edit and got the same issue. I validated the .csl here: https://validator.citationstyles.org/ and everything looks good. I'm not sure what the issue is.

I'm using the Zotero 6.0.37 Desktop app.

Can you please help with this? Thanks!
  • Please don't make new posts for the same issue.
You're absolutely fine with bumping a thread after a reasonable time.
In your request you didn't include the style, so nobody can help really. And I guess then it also fell through the cracks.
Upload your style to pastebin.com, share the URL.
  • Okay I apologize, I wasn't aware. I'll bump it next time. I tried pasting the style originally, but the post was too long to share. Here is the style:

  • A little hard to say why this didn't install, but you should change the style title and ID so it doesn't try to overwrite the built-in APA style, which may be used for other things.
  • Okay thanks. I changed the style title and ID, but I still get the same error.

Would it be possible for you to add this style to the repository so I could try adding it this way? https://www.zotero.org/styles/

It is somewhat crucial for me to have this part italicized in text. In the meantime, I will look for another existing style that includes this.
  • Can you provide a Debug ID for trying to install?
  • Once I enabled debug output logging the error no longer occured and I was able to install my style. Thanks!
