Best Practices for Tagging and Filtering Annotations in Zotero

Hey,

I am currently writing my master's thesis and have started using Zotero for the first time to organize my literature and citations.

My current approach involves inserting several interesting papers related to my field of research and browsing through them. As I read, I highlight all interesting phrases and allocate each annotation to the possible chapter of my thesis using tags. The next step would be to filter all highlights/annotations for the introduction tag to copy them into my document, which helps include my sources and assists with my writing process.

My first question is: Is this a typical workflow for writing a thesis with Zotero? I noticed that I cannot filter my notes by a single tag without all annotations for a paper showing up. My current idea is to add a note from annotation for all read paper and then use the Zotero API to export all notes at once and insert them into an Excel table so I can filter that table for the specific tag.

Is there a better way to implement this?

Regards,

Max
