Cannot print URLs and I need them

  • this is so frustrating - can you connect to my computer? I took a screenshot and it wouldn't copy and paste here. So i pasted it into Word (which did nicely print the righthand pane clearly showing the correct fields including both the doi and the url filled) but when i tried to copy and paste from Word (it was in a text box) nothing i did would let me copy and paste. so i went back into zotero and tried to simply copy and paste the right hand pane and it won't let me copy. it will only highlight one field at a time and CTRL A doesn't do it. You're gonna have to take my word that Zotero simply isn't correctly printing the URLs (at least not all of the time). The only reason EndNote is relevant is to say that clearly the fields are filled, the output style is the same and one is printing and the other not.

As for document preferences snipping tool picture won't print but what I have it set to
    Vancouver
    Fields (ticked)
    Automatically update citations
    and
Under Manage Styles I ticked "include URLs of paper references"

  • Pasting screenshots into the forum definitely works, so not sure what's going on there. You can alternatively export the Alves reference to RIS, open the exported file with a text editor (notepad, textedit) and paste here.

I still think the most likely theory here is a misunderstanding, but even if it is a bug, I'd need to be able to somehow replicate what you're seeing which entails getting similar information into Zotero.
  • Did as you suggested - exported Alves to RIS and opened with txt

AB - Background and ObjectivesTo evaluate brain volume changes caused by different subclasses of anti–β-amyloid (Aβ) drugs trailed in patients with Alzheimer disease.MethodsPubMed, Embase, and ClinicalTrials.gov databases were searched for clinical trials of anti-Aβ drugs. This systematic review and meta-analysis included adults enrolled in randomized controlled trials of anti-Aβ drugs (n = 8,062–10,279). The inclusion criteria were as follows: (1) randomized controlled trials of patients treated with anti-Aβ drugs that have demonstrated to favorably change at least one biomarker of pathologic Aβ and (2) detailed MRI data sufficient to assess the volumetric changes in at least one brain region. MRI brain volumes were used as the primary outcome measure; brain regions commonly reported include hippocampus, lateral ventricle, and whole brain. Amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIAs) were investigated when reported in clinical trials. Of the 145 trials reviewed, 31 were included in the final analyses.ResultsA meta-analysis on the highest dose of each trial on hippocampus, ventricle, and whole brain revealed drug-induced acceleration of volume changes that varied by anti-Aβ drug class. Secretase inhibitors accelerated atrophy to the hippocampus (Δ placebo - Δ drug: −37.1 µL [19.6% more than placebo]; 95% CI −47.0 to −27.1) and whole brain (Δ placebo - Δ drug: −3.3 mL [21.8% more than placebo]; 95% CI −4.1 to 2.5). Conversely, ARIA-inducing monoclonal antibodies accelerated ventricular enlargement (Δ placebo - Δ drug: +2.1 mL [38.7% more than placebo]; 95% CI 1.5–2.8) where a striking correlation between ventricular volume and ARIA frequency was observed (r = 0.86, p = 6.22 × 10−7). Mild cognitively impaired participants treated with anti-Aβ drugs were projected to have a material regression toward brain volumes typical of Alzheimer dementia ∼8 months earlier than if they were untreated.DiscussionThese findings reveal the potential for anti-Aβ therapies to compromise long-term brain health by accelerating brain atrophy and provide new insight into the adverse impact of ARIA. Six recommendations emerge from these findings.

  • Note, the above is exactly what i do when i then import or open with EndNote and get the URL field as above, but when i click generate biblio with that same citation in Zotero i get:
. Alves F, Kalinowski P, Ayton S. Accelerated Brain Volume Loss Caused by Anti-β-Amyloid Drugs: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis. Neurology. 2023 May 16;100(20):e2114–24.
  • That citation isn't created with the same item ("A systematic review..." is nowhere in the RIS.) You likely have a duplicate, one version without URL
  • hmmm - i just downloaded a fresh citation published only yesterday and it worked in Zotero by taking the steps you all gave (unlink and then autoformat). Now it's a problem for my library.
thanks for the instructions but this is confusing as I did a duplicate search and got rid of duplicates that could account for the problem you spotted. This is in my court now. Again, thanks.

  • If you searched and _removed_ (as opposed to merged, which is recommended) duplicates, the items in your Word document may be using the original data, now disconnected from Zotero (and stored in the Word document)
  • Aha! I think you uncovered the crux of the problem. Wow.
