PDF Editing Capability: Adding Text Boxes Directly in PDFs
Hello Zotero Community and Developers,
I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to propose a feature that I believe could significantly enhance Zotero's functionality for many users: the ability to add text boxes directly within PDF files.
Background:
Zotero is an invaluable tool for researchers and academics, and its current features have greatly facilitated our workflow. However, I've noticed that there is a gap in the capabilities when it comes to annotating and editing PDFs directly within Zotero.
Feature Request:
The feature I am suggesting is the addition of PDF editing functionality that allows users to:
Add text boxes to PDF documents directly from within the Zotero interface.
Position, resize, and format these text boxes as needed.
Save these changes back to the original PDF file or as a new annotated version.
Use Cases:
This feature would be particularly useful for:
Researchers who need to make annotations on articles and papers.
Students who want to add notes to their reading materials.
Professionals who need to mark up documents for review or presentation.
Implementation Thoughts:
I understand that implementing such a feature would require careful consideration of the user interface and performance implications. However, I believe that with Zotero's commitment to innovation and user experience, this could be a seamless addition.
Community Benefit:
By integrating this feature, Zotero would not only meet the needs of its current user base but also attract new users who require robust PDF editing capabilities alongside citation management.
I would love to hear thoughts, suggestions, and feedback from the community and the development team. If there are any similar requests or if this has been considered before, I would appreciate being directed to those discussions.
Thank you for considering this feature request. I am excited about the potential enhancements to Zotero and look forward to the possibility of this becoming a reality.

(Also, I'm not sure if this post was generated with AI or what, but please be more concise in future posts and just say what you're asking for.)
Thank you very much for your prompt reply and the update on the features. I was not aware that the text annotation feature has already been implemented in the Zotero 7 beta version. I have upgraded my Zotero and tried out the new features, and I must say, the implementation is truly impressive.
However, during my use, I noticed that the current text annotation feature lacks some customization options, such as default font size, font type, color settings, and a shortcut key for quickly opening text annotations. If these functionalities could be added in the next update, I believe it would greatly enhance the user experience.
