Inserting only author name regardless of the citation style

I would like to write the following:
"Miller (2003) writes that .. This is also shown by others (Baker, 2004; Schulz, 2004)."
The document citation style is (author, year), so the latter citation (Baker and Schulz) is covered, but not the first (Miller).
Now, Zotero supports inserting only the year in (author, year) styles, so I'll manage the "(2003)" above, but how to insert only the author name? Besides the obvious writing it manually, of course.
Thanks!
  • There is a plan to implement what you are looking for, but it does not exist yet. The way how to do it, is to write the author name in the text, then select "omit author" from the insert citation dialogue. This will insert the date only, in your case it would result in a zotero field: (2003). The author name "Miller" would not be a zotero field.
This means that if you for example convert the citation style to a footnote style, the citation would move to the footnote, but you would be left with "Miller writes that" in the text.
  • Nothing besides the obvious. There are plans to facilitate this, but the details are involved
  • I see. So no need to file an enhancement request?
  • No, you can find plenty of existing threads on this
