Hanging and failure to capture web page snapshots in Safari

This discussion was created from comments split from: Available for beta testing: Zotero, redesigned.
  • Hi. Experiencing hanging and failure to capture web page snapshots. Could you take a look please? Yes understand it's on MacOS/Safari and have seen the disclaimer, but this must be a relatively common user environment.
Sent debugging output. 9 "ZoteroCP Web Content" processes running if that's relevant.
Related I think, over time memory usage becomes extreme necessitating Safari/Zotero restart.

    Thanks
  • (Please start new threads for new issues — the thread you posted to isn't related. I've moved this to a new thread.)

Can you say more about exactly what you're doing and what's happening?
  • Thanks. Have two Safari profiles running. < 10 tabs. After full restart of Safari and Zotero captures work, within 15mins they start hanging.
  • Does it happen if you only use a single profile?

What do you see for "Zotero Connector (Safari)" in Activity Monitor? Does CPU usage and/or memory usage go up? Does the PID remain the same over the course of the 15 minutes?

Do you have to actually use the extension for this to happen?

Does it matter where you save from? Does just saving, say, forum threads here trigger it?

Can you provide a Debug ID from the Connector for an attempt that hangs?
  • Thanks. Debug ID was 1502570844.

  • From restart:

    One profile.

Does it happen if you only use a single profile?
Using only one profile has made it much more stable. Could be the problem.

What do you see for "Zotero Connector (Safari)" in Activity Monitor? Does CPU usage and/or memory usage go up? Does the PID remain the same over the course of the 15 minutes?
Over several hours PID same, 37MB to 405MB memory usage.

Do you have to actually use the extension for this to happen?
    Not previously.

Does it matter where you save from? Does just saving, say, forum threads here trigger it?
    No.

    Thanks again.
  • That's a Report ID from Zotero, not a Debug ID from the Connector.
Over several hours PID same, 37MB to 405MB memory usage.
You're seeing that when the problem occurs, or in general? Are you saying that, just while browsing with Safari without using the Connector, you're seeing memory usage of "Zotero Connector (Safari)" go up to 405 MB? With a single profile or multiple?
  • Ah OK on the debug ID.

This was using one profile while using the connector, without experiencing the problem.
  • Can you reproduce that? Restarting Safari and then getting up to hundreds of MB of memory usage from the Connector? How long does that take, and what steps are you taking to reproduce it?
