Failed to save citations by clicking "Cite->EndNote" on Google Scholar but download .enw files

Hello to all!

When I try to save citations from Google Scholar, the Connector extension cannot act as expected. If I click the "Cite" button and choose a format, a "scholar.enw" file downloads without the Connector pop-ups.

Report ID: 104864923
Debug ID: D1565783885
Zotero version: 6.0.36
Zotero Connector version: 5.0.133
Chrome version: 126.0.6478.63 (Official Build) (64-bit) (cohort: Control)
OS: Windows 10 Version 22H2 (Build 19045.4529)

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start Zotero
2. Start Chrome and visit https://scholar.google.com/scholar?q=+author:A. Koestler
3. Click the "Cite->EndNote" button of The act of creation
4. Chrome displays start downloading a "scholar.enw" file

Thanks and best,
Yosoro

Google made a major change to the Chrome extension framework that prevents automatic RIS/BibTeX/ENW interception from working. We've been in touch with them about this, and they're working on a new way of supporting this capability, but we don't know when that will be available. This continues to work in other browsers.

But there's no reason to be using this on most sites, including Google Scholar — you should just use the Save to Zotero button. (And you can of course also just save the file to disk and open it via Zotero to import, but there's no need for that either.)
  • Thanks for your quick reply, I sincerely hope this useful feature can be restored soon.
  • Again, though, there was never any reason to use this on Google Scholar. This feature only existed for the rare site where Zotero couldn't automatically detect and save bibliographic data. And on many sites, Zotero improves on the data the site makes available, so saving this way would actually give you worse results.
