[Zotero 7 Beta] highlights don't sync properly between iOS and MacOS

edited June 15, 2024
I've been highlighting and annotating a PDF on my iPad. I use Zotero storage for sync. Just now, I opened up the same PDF on my MacBook Pro, and I was dismayed to discover that the same passages do not appear highlighted on the different platforms. Furthermore, clicking on a particular highlight in the Zotero 7 PDF annotation pane takes me to a highlight that does not correspond to the text highlight chosen in the annotation pane!

  • Did you by any chance delete a PDF page outside of Zotero? E.g., a cover page? The annotations are just off by a page.

Can you share a screenshot that includes the annotations sidebar on your iPad?

You're right -- I did delete the cover page outside of Zotero (in Acrobat). Once I realized this, I deleted all the highlights and reselected them, but the problem persists. Why? I'm attaching a screenshot of the annotations sidebar on my iPad (which now looks the same after I redownloaded the pdf with the cover page missing).

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If you delete the highlights and recreate them, they'd appear where you created them.
