Error when trying to add edited style to Zotero

I'm trying to edit a style with the visual editor. I need to replace the short title in the second and subsequent citations of an article, book, or chapter with 'op. cit.'. I'm trying to do this by going to Layout -> Conditional -> If subsequent (add 'The document type is' - article, chapter, and book in separate clauses). Then, -> Group -> change short title to term (op. cit.). After this, I rename and save the CSL file, but when I try to upload it to Zotero, it says that 'it is not a valid CSL 1.0.2 style file, and may not work properly with Zotero.' If I go ahead and install it anyway, it is then impossible to apply it to the document, and an error message comes up.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? Thanks!

If that doesn't help you, share your code via pastebin or similar and we'll have a look. You probably just missed some brackets or so.
  • kind of surprised it's possible to create an invalid style with the Visual editor -- I'd also be happy to take a look if you go to the code editor in the visual editor, select all, copy and the paste the style to pastebin.com, create a bin and (this is important!) post the link here.

Sorry guys, I just came back to this forum for the first time in months. I ended up just giving up on it and doing the footnotes the old-fashioned way. It's a bit morose but it took me less time than trying to make Zotero work. Thanks for your help, though!
  • All you would've needed to do is a copy/paste to pastebin.com and we would've highly likely given you a solution within minutes.
It's sad to read that you instead opted to do this manually and not use the software the way it is intended, making your life easier.
  • I was about to hit a deadline and just needed to make it happen. You are also heavily overestimating my computer skills, I'm the kind of guy who would happily go back to typewriters if that wouldn't leave me at a disadvantage compared to others.

Anyway, I appreciate the work you and others do here. Sorry I was too overwhelmed with work to remember to go back and post the code.
