Zotero app running very slow on desktop and laptop (opening pdfs, opening folders, etc)

Hello! Recently my Zotero app has been running super slow. I use the app mainly to collect and read/annotate pdfs. Lately, there have been long load times between opening pdfs, opening folders, switching from pdf tabs, highlighting text, and even getting to the system preferences page. I deleted a large number of pdfs to see if things would run smoother, but that didn't help.
