Incorrect Citation Format and No In-Text Citations

I have the most current version of Zotero, the Chrome extension and Office plug-in however, when I connect to a paper or article Zotero doesn't format the information as a citation for the reference page. When I try to do an in-text citation it populates a full citation and then on the reference page it populates unformatted information. I have watched multiple videos and cannot figure out why this isn't working for me.
