Question regarding data directory backups

Hi,

In my institution (a scientific library), we use a Zotero group library with 50+ members for some acquisitions workflows. I'm currently looking into a backup strategy and have read your recommendations at https://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data#backing_up_your_zotero_data.

My current approach is to run a Windows batch script via a Windows scheduled task on the laptop of several users of the group library. The script would run daily and copy the Zotero data directory to a OneDrive folder.

My first experiments have been successful. However, the script starts automatically at a given time, without making sure that the Zotero client is closed. Now I read in the documentation "Before you copy, delete, or move any of these files, be sure that Zotero is closed. Failure to do so before moving these files can damage your data." So far, no harm has been produced by running the backup script while my Zotero client was open. Can I assume that mere copying, without renaming or moving files inside the Zotero data directory, is always safe, even while the client is running?

Thanks in advance!
