Updating Zotero to latest version

I get the error message 'This Zotero database requires Zotero 6.0.36 or later.
Current version: 5.0.55
Please upgrade to the latest version from zotero.org.' every time I open Zotero. I click on 'check for update' and I download the update as well. then it asks me to restart Zotero. I do that and it show the error message all over again. How do I move forward? I need access to all the citations in Zotero and want to add more.

Install Zotero from the download page. Your version of Zotero is from August 2018.

Did that, shows the same error message.

If you're getting that message, you're not installing it properly.

You should uninstall whatever Zotero you have (which won't affect your data) and reinstall it.
