Can't save ScienceDirect PDF from Safari

[Split from Zotero is not saving PDFs from ScienceDirect]

I have reviewed this thread but couldn't find my specific problem. Maybe I overlooked some comments, but I can add PDFs as @distillman mentioned using the captcha method.

My problem occurs when I access the PDF using the "View PDF" button on the journal website and then try to add the opened PDF using the Zotero Safari extension. I always get an error saying, "An error occurred while saving this item. Try again, and if the issue persists, see Getting Help for more information." which can be seen in the screenshot below.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the captcha method". The point of my post is that saving from ScienceDirect works in Zotero 7 because Zotero 7 is able to display the CAPTCHA from ScienceDirect, enabling you to complete it and allow saving to continue. But you seem to be saying that PDF saving isn't working for you.

First, you shouldn't be saving from the PDF on a supported site like ScienceDirect. You should be saving from the article page, and Zotero will automatically download metadata and the PDF if one is available.

But saving on some highly gated sites — including ScienceDirect — just won't work well in Safari due to technical limitations:

When this doesn't work in Safari, you can try to use Find Available PDF in Zotero after saving, you can save from a different browser, or you can download the PDF to disk and drag it onto the saved parent item.
