zotero for iPad not downloading attached PDFs - no error code available

using Z for mac v.6.0.37 - Z for iPad v. 1.0.33

> created new parent item on macbook, added pdf files
> checked these were *stored* files, not linked files
> synced
> new parent item appeared on ipad, but NOT the attached files
> checked online storage via browser, no fault with item, can download and open these pdfs from my zotero.org account
> have tried shutting everything down, restarting, resyncing, files still not on ipad.

any ideas? I'm not getting any 'can't download' errors so I don't have a debug code.
  • Start by updating to the latest version of the app and logging out and in. You're several versions behind.
  • Done. Didn’t solve the issue.

    I also have a new question which is: how do I turn on auto updates? (this is set for the iPad and other apps are updating fine but clearly Zotero isn’t…)

    Apps don't have anything to do with their own updates — that's just iOS. All apps should update automatically by default.

    When you say "new parent item appeared on ipad, but NOT the attached files", what exactly do you mean? Can you provide a screenshot, as well as Debug ID for pulling down on the items list to trigger a manual sync?

    I can't provide a Debug ID from when the issue was occuring; I've now found a work around but if it's relevant the last synch debug as D1395391102

    I've attached a screenshot to explain. I created a series of new parent items in the desktop app, using metadata, isbns, etc, and several of them had attached PDFs. All of them successfully synced across devices with the exception of 4 pdfs which are present on the desktop version and online, but would not 'draw down' to the ipad. No error messages at any point.

    I have solved this issue by creating a new parent item on the desktop app, drag and dropping the pdfs to this new parent item and syncing. This time the pdfs transferred without a problem.

    I'd still be interested in knowing whether there's any systematic reason why they did not transfer previously - this was over multiple syncs on multiple networks, I spotted the problem about 24 hours ago.

    If you can reproduce this, we'd want a Debug ID for the first sync on the iPad after adding the standalone attachments on the desktop and having them not appear on the iPad. Start debug output logging on the iPad, add the files on the desktop, and then pull down on the items list on the iPad to make sure there's been at least one sync.
