Can't change citation style

Hi, I generated a word file and inserted all needed citations with the style "Chicago Manual of Style 17th edition (full note)". However, the journal requests another style (Thieme German) which can be downloaded from the journal's homepage. Unfortunately, this does not work (as also switching to e.g. Nature style), I receive an error message with a link to trouble shooting. There I changed and adapted all suggestions mentioned without any success. Even when I delete all citations and add only one I can't change to the desired style and receive that error message.
Any further idea?

Do you have the citations in footnotes or endnotes? If you have them in endnotes, switch to footnotes first, then to a different style.
