Editing the same document on multiple computers

If I am writing a text with other people and use Zotero, it is not possible to edit a citation or change the style of the bibliography at the computer where the citations wasn't inserted, even though we sync our libraries via zotero.org and use the same account. I am working with Ubuntu and the other one with Windows, but both of us use OpenOffice. The reverence fields in the document do not connect to Zotero at the other computer. Is there a possibility to fix this problem?

Thanx for an answer.
  • Have you done any testing? Does Zotero work independently on both machines?
Are you sure that syncing works correctly?
This is supposed to work and works for most people, so any fix will be more specific.
  • Both Zoteros work independently and syncing works correctly, too. But if the document is sent to the second computer, there is no connection anymore between Zotero fields in the OpenOffice document and Zotero. It is as if any reference wasn't added. Maybe it is a problem that there are two different OpenOffice-versions (3.1 und 2.4)?

    Thanx for your answer.
  • any reason one of you is still on 2.4? - that's at least a potential reason.
Oh one more thing - in what format are you saving? If you use reference marks you have to save as .odt. If you save as .doc you need to use bookmarks. The former is advised.
  • The documents are always saved in .odt, of cource. The reason that I am still on 2.4 is because ubuntu 8.04 (which I'm still using because it is the long term support version and upgrades sometime do not work) does not support 3.x OpenOffice. But thank you for the advise, I will upgrade to 3.1 on my ubuntu.
