.RIS import by clipboard - items can't be linked to pdfs

I might be asking too much. I want to get references from a pdf paper into Zotero. So I cut and pasted them into chatgpt, had it create .ris with them, control-c, and in Zotero, imported by clipboard.

It seemed to work great, but the individual items don't show the option "fetch metadata", and when I choose several and ask it to find pdfs, it can't do that either even though the citations aren't old, and several are open access.

I can add the pdfs manually, but the whole point was to create a bulk process. Any reason why Zotero can't find these? No DOIs, but that doesn't always seem necessary.

Zotero needs either a DOI or a URL to find the PDF, so if that's not in the reference, it won't be in the RIS and this won't work. That said, you could try if you can get the DOI via the DOI manager add-on https://github.com/bwiernik/zotero-shortdoi

I also saw someone suggest that method of using ChatGPT to parse a reference list to get it into Zotero, in that case via BibTex ...

The DOI manager add-on worked pretty well. Found 60% of the pdfs in my group. Thanks!

What would happen if you re-framed the original question to ChatGPT (or issued the DOI question as a follow-up) ? - "Please convert this list of references into an RIS file. Also please find and add DOIs for those references which lack them". ;)
