my zotero is unable to retrieve the metadata of the pdfs i upload. i don't know what to do...

That doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem. Read through Standalone Attachments and Parent Items to make sure you understand what to expect.

If you think it's not working for a file that should be recognized, provide a link to the file and a Debug ID for an attempt that fails.
