Renumbering citations after a threshold

Is there a way to put an if statement within a CSL file such that after a certain number of citations (e.g. 60) the remainder starting at 61 and onwards are labelled as e1, e2, etc.? This is what is often requested by the Neurology family of journals. I played around with a CSL file and trying to insert a conditional into the XML but had no luck with it. It is rather tedious to re-number everything on my own as well.

Many thanks for all the help!
  • I don't know about the CSL but which word processor are you using? In MS Word, you can insert a continious section break via ctrl+enter, then in references tab, you can click on the bottom right corner of footnotes and endnotes menu to set the numbering of footnotes to get restarted after every section break for the whole document. If you can't figure it out, please let me now.
  • Not possible with CSL as described, no, but you could have two documents with different CSL styles, one of them adding an "e" before citations to create the e1, e2 etc. options.
