Text highlights disappear as soon as new highlight is created

The following issue has appeared out of the blue as of today: when I select the highlight tool, I can highlight one section of text, but as soon as I select a second section of text the first highlight disappears. Hence I am not able to use the highlight tool at all. Before today this wasn't an issue.

I updated Zotero, restarted Zotero, restarted computer but nothing changed.

@vdplasthijs Does the issue still occur with the Zotero 7 beta?

The issue has disappeared, without changing anything. Highlighting now works correctly again (for the same PDF files). I didn't restart or update Zotero/my computer since the error report. Mysterious! Thanks for your replies.
