BUG:Add Note -> can only be added to the first note opened, not the one currently open in the right

Add Note -> can only be added to the first note opened, not the one currently open in the right sidebar.
Suggest adding a note close button, or even checking the right sidebar for newly opened notes, to prevent adding to the wrong notes and not being able to find them.

  • Does it still occur after you disabled all the plugins?
  • Yes, I turned off all plugins and restarted zotero, and still have the same problem, adding notes can only be added to, the first note opened after the restart, not the one currently open on the right side. And, after several attempts, the back< button fails to return.

  • my zotero :7.0.0-beta.75+f7dc68c7f
  • What is your operating system?
Where do you open "the first note opened after the restart"?
Can you reproduce in a newly created note and another PDF file, after disabling all plugins and restarting Zotero?
Can you provide a Debug ID for reproducing the problem?

There was a similar problem with the back button in a previous beta version. But that bug was fixed.
I cannot reproduce either problems reported on Windows 10, Zotero 7.0.0-beta.75+f7dc68c7f (64-bit).

    2. In the right-hand column. Then go to the second document and open the notes for the second document in the right-hand column.

  • Ok, I got it. I managed to reproduce when two Item Notes are opened simultaneously in two separate PDF Reader tabs.
    Debug ID: D351615608
  • I don't really want to open two Item Notes at the same time, but there is no Item Notes close button, I clicked on the back button and then opened the second Item Note, and I still have the same problem.
  • And the exact steps I could find to reproduce the bug breaking the note navigation:
    1) Open two PDFs in Reader tabs from two different items
    2) Navigate to the Notes from the tab of PDF1
    3) Open a child note of that item in the right-hand pane
    4) Go to the tab of PDF2
-> I would expect to see the same note opened in that tab, but instead I still see the list of notes.
    5) Open a child not of that item and go back with the back arrow button at the top left
-> At this stage, I see the list of notes in the right-hand pane
    6) Go back to the tab of PDF1
-> I would expect to see the list of notes. But instead I see:

The title of the note is the one of the note opened at step 5 (child note of Item2).
The back button does not work anymore.

  • I can reproduce as well. We'll fix it. Thanks for reporting.
  • very thankful
  • I upgraded to 7.0.0-beta.76+91054acfe (64-bit) but it still didn't fix the problem.
  • Should be fixed now in beta 77
  • Thank you.
  • Thank you.
  • I am finding that this problem still happens to me, I just downloaded the most recent version. To recreate, I had a pdf open, and created an item note (I have better notes installed btw, but this was not a better notes note). I finished with that pdf, so I closed it without closing the note. I then opened up 2 pdfs. In the first pdf, the previous item note was still listed in the title, and the back button didn't do anything when clicked. The note text was also gone. I then switched to the second open pdf tab and the pane was now in the correct state - backed out to the notes "home page". When I swapped back to the first tab, it was also in the correct state. It is as though when I pressed the back button in the first new pdf, it did back out of the note, but didn't change the state of the pane in the first tab, but did in the second tab. I didn't see that it had changed state until I switched to the second tab. Maybe some kind of refresh problem with the back button behavior?
  • @Yokotaashi Can you reproduce this with all third-party plugins disabled? If so, could you make a video demonstrating the issue?
  • I disabled the plugins and that seemed to fix it. It seems to be fine now I reactivated them so maybe that was it? I will post again if the problem returns and I can get some evidence.
